TOGETHER in Argentina for the Youth
In the project the volunteers will support the community centre Alimentar Enseñando (www.alimentarenseniando.org.ar) with the education (assistance in teaching English, help with homework) and the animation (sport, recreational and artistic activities) of impoverished children and youth from General Rodríguez (Buenos Aires).
Alimentar Enseñando hosts volunteers for years from different countries. Voluntary service in Argentina is a great opportunity for young people to live in an intercultural environment, to deepen their knowledge about global issues and differences and to develop their social and tolerant attitude. The main objective of this project is to help children with fewer opportunities in Argentina.
Activities with children require some special characteristics: patience, creativity, enthusiasm, tolerance and motivation. The Alimentar Enseñando-project is centred on the education process of young Argentine people with fewer opportunities.
The volunteers will deepen their understanding of the complex social, cultural, economic mechanisms at play in the disadvantageous neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires, and the position of the children and youth in this context. They will have an intercultural experience also by meeting and working with other volunteers from different countries.
Moreover, such an intercultural awareness is not only an important learning outcome for the young volunteers. For the children and youth attending Alimentar Enseñando too, it’s important to get in touch with those volunteers coming from ‘far away’. In this way they can learn the world is bigger than their own neighbourhood, and learn to put values and habits in perspective
The role and tasks of the volunteers
The possible tasks of the volunteers vary from educational and recreational roles to more practical tasks.
