Field of Studies: environmental sciences, development studies, intercultural youth work, sustainable development, educational sciences
Vocational Field: -
Language: English
Number of Participants: 3

The historic temple of Angkor Wat, built in the 12th century is the most important tourist site of Cambodia and still a religious centre. But due to warfare and more recently pollution, the site is endangered.
The “Royal Angkor Foundation” (RAF) was founded in 1992 with the purpose of facilitating, safeguarding and developing the historic site of Angkor. It promotes the understanding and cooperation between local and foreign stakeholders. Run on a voluntary basis, its activities are predominantly project-based and cover a wide range of areas such as scientific activities, education and cultural heritage protection with an emphasis on the “human factor”.
GLEN participants will teach, facilitate and supervise the next “Green Life” course of RAF at the Samdech Euv High School (Siem Reap Town). Topics of the “Green Life” course are environmentally friendly living, sustainable tourism, and eco-friendly community life. The GLEN participants should introduce these topics by using intercultural learning methods. The module includes an English language course.
The internship will take place in different phases. During the first month GLEN participants will train teachers and students in two parallel classes. This is followed by a week of joint assessment and evaluation of results and a joint amendment of the curriculum. During the following month new training courses will be conducted by the trained teachers and supervised by the volunteers. In this phase team building methods and creative activities connected to the topic of the internship should be implemented as part of the curriculum. Study visits and field trips are also necessary to explain and experience eco-friendly living. The last two weeks of the internship are reserved for a joint action project (such as an exhibition) implemented by all participants of both training courses.
Knowledge of one or better two of the above-mentioned topics of the “Green Life” course are welcomed. Strong command of English and the ability to work under instructions and as part of a team are required.

The scheduled time for the internship is September to November 2009.

The preparatory phase of the internship will take place in English. The GLEN internship team will be composed of one German/ Swiss, one Estonian and one Hungarian participant.
